In this week's SA Artist Spotlight, we're featuring Grassy Spark:
Grassy Spark tags themselves as a “ska – blend band from Cape Town”. They most certainly are a blend of something and it is quirky and cool. They are quirky -cool. Founded in April 2012, the band has moved from a small band to a 7-piece groove band, that sounds together fusions from various genres such as: rock, Latin, funk and reggae. Their quirky – cool personalities find its way not only in their music but in their stage performance as well. When listening to their music, you cannot help but feel like you’re a cool kid (from a movie) driving down LA boulevard with your ray bands on and the wind rushing through your hair. Grassy Spark truly highlights the ‘South Africa’ in South African music, through their clear representation of diversity that their music provides (both vocally and instrumentally). They also have some serious dance tunes to keep you grooving all the way to the disco. Catch them at Rocking the Daisies (2017), rocking it out and funking it up.
