It’s been a full few months at UCT Radio and our management team has been hard at work prepping like crazy! The first few weeks back at campus is always a hectic time for UCT Radio. We hadn’t even been back a full month but we had already participated in Plaza Week; hosted Fresher’s Braai; changed up our website (stay tuned for an awesome website relaunch) and have begun training our new intake of UCT Radio members!

A new year means we always have to say goodbye to old faces and welcome new ones. With many of our members having graduated and moved on, we have had to reshuffle our on-air presenters around a bit. We’ve also spent the vacation period training non-UCT members all about our business – they’re all hosting shows on their own now. We look forward to seeing them grow and flourish!

Plaza Week was a gruelling few days under the hot Cape Town sun but our team kept the UCT Radio vibe going and spirits high! Our stand was visited by many eager faces and we ended the week with a great deal of sign-ups this year.

With UCT Radio hosting the Freshers Braai this year, we were hard at work arranging MCs, DJs and artists to perform.  The event went off without a hitch! The vibe was great and the crowd took very little encouragement to get involved with the festivities. We had some crazy and daring give-away competitions for the first years but they were game for anything. And our MCs, Khanya, Kuhle and Mark, kept the fun going all night long.

Training kicked off with a bang. We held a little braai/ social for our new and returning members to ease everyone into the swing of things. This gave newbies a chance to ask any questions they had and speak to actual UCT Radio members. A week later, we started our first week of theoretical training sessions with the prospective members who seem very keen and eager to learn.

We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds.

Good luck team and keep up the great work!
